A place called HOME
An Inconvenient Truth, the documentary by the former USA vice president Al Gore, was a real wake up call for me. Well, the documentary gave me deeper understanding on what global warming is all about and it describes what our planet Earth, right now, looks like. My first comment then was “WOW. The ice caps and even the glaciers are really melting while islands are gradually disappearing”.
In the eye-opener documentary, Al Gore stated the causes and the future effects of global warming. He showed charts and pictures which are very distasteful to my innocent eyes. It was stated that the planet Earth’s temperature is increasing because of the increase amount of Carbon Dioxide yearly. When the amount of CO2 is increased, production of greenhouse gases may occur, which will trap the sun’s heat in the earth’s atmosphere, thus making the earth warm.
It was confirmed that the use of newer technologies that produces harmful substances can have a great effect on our atmosphere. And yes, I can attest to that by just watching the streets of Iligan City. Observing the trashes on sidewalks, people burning tires, and cars that produce black smokes make me feel ashamed. How on earth can we solve these problems? How can we make Mother Nature happy?
Then, something popped in my mind at the moment. I can plant trees! I can tell my parents to minimize the use of air conditioner and even washing machine! Even though they are small in sizes, but maybe some day, it can literally come in big packages. As what they say, just have someone to start, and surely others will follow.
We can prevent Global Warming if we can control ourselves from doing cruel things to our planet Earth. Proper wasting can help us. Planting more trees can prevent floods. And by cleaning our surroundings, we can make a better environment.
